Annual Futurity at Roseneath Fair

This Sunday the East Central Zone will be hosting their Annual Futurity at the Roseneath Fair. The Futurity is a competition where the breeders enter their cows that they think will have that “special calf” the December previous and through 2 additional nomination rounds the breeder gets to decide which animals will remain in for the subsequent rounds. Each of the rounds has a nomination fee per animal and only calves from the cows nominated in December are eligible to participate. In addition to some really nice hardware, the winners receive cash prizes as well to go along with bragging rights. If you have been following the ECOHZ Futurity for years you will also know that this is their annual chilli cook-off and the beef competition ends with the Hereford Breeders feeding all competitors some of the finest Hereford Chilli. This Sunday Roseneath is the place to be see you there.

Bus Tour from Waterloo Cattlemen’s

September 6th, Peterborough County Cattlemen had the pleasure of hosting a bus tour from the Waterloo Cattlemen’s Association. Over 50 beef producers enjoyed the tour. As a Hereford Breeder it is always important to get a stop in at a local producer. Milma Farms, Edgar, Marie and Greg Cornish did their usual outstanding job of representing the breed and talking to the crowd about the Hereford program at Milma. Hereford genetics, breeding for what works for their herd, and multi-generations of cow families showcase the Cornish herd. Thank you Edgar, Marie, and Greg for hosting one of the stops on this trip.
